The Women’s International Zionist Organization (WIZO) is a global nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of women, children and the elderly in Israel. Founded in Great Britain in 1920, WIZO has grown to include members in over 50 countries. It is the largest provider of social welfare services in Israel outside of the government.
WIZO USA and WIZO Florida, with a strong presence in Bay Harbor Islands, focus on advancing women’s status, supporting child welfare and education, caring for the elderly and protecting vulnerable populations in Israel. These branches also strengthen the bond between Israel and American Jewry by promoting Jewish identity and education, and support the Jewish State.
The organization provides for the welfare of infants, children, youth, women and the elderly in Israel. It also advances women’s status and supports the absorption of new immigrants. WIZO envisions a humanistic Israeli society built on equal opportunities, emphasizing education and welfare in cooperation with the Jewish Diaspora.
The United Nations recognized WIZO as a non-governmental organization in 1959. It was the first Zionist organization granted consultative status at the Economic and Social Council and the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund. With 250,000 members and tens of thousands of volunteers worldwide, WIZO acts as an agent of change for women, children and youth in Israel.
