Agree Public Works Department - Highway Division Public Drainage Ditches Section Menu The County Highway Department assists in the maintenance and management of the Public Drainage Ditches in the County. Beltrami County has 1,050 miles of public drainage ditches. The County Board of Commissioners acts as the Ditch Authority with the Highway Department acting as the Ditch Inspector and or Ditch Engineer as needed. Landowners along these public drainage ditches may occasionally need to submit a Request For Ditch Repair when a ditch requires maintenance attention. If a landowner wants to work on a ditch, there is a process in place to ask permission that begins with completing a Judicial Ditch Permit Application. Ditch information is shown on the Beltrami County GIS Mapping Program. For more information, contact the Beltrami County Highway Department. Press Release: MSA Scholarships

Sheriff Jason Riggs of Beltrami County announced today the commencement of the Law Enforcement Scholarship Program for 2026. Sheriff Riggs proudly announced that the MSA Board of Directors has established a scholarship fund for the awarding of up to 18 - $2,000 scholarships for this year. These scholarships are due to the coordinated efforts of the 87 elected Sheriffs of the State of Minnesota. The MSA gives special recognition to the financial needs of students attending the peace officer skills course or one of the two- or four-year law enforcement degree programs around the state. “The MSA Board of Directors acknowledges the current challenges in recruiting and greatly appreciates the individuals who decide to serve others through a career in law enforcement. This is one way that we can support that honorable decision,” said Deputy Director Brian Johnson. “This remains a noble profession and offering these scholarships is another we that we can promote the profession and support those who wish to serve and protect in our communities.” said Beltrami County Sheriff Jason Riggs The MSA recognizes the importance of pre-entry training for people considering law enforcement as their career choice. The MSA also acknowledges that some students may need outside help in meeting the costs of such training, even though they excel academically. The MSA Scholarship Committee, in making its selection of awards, intends to achieve representation from all geographical areas of the state. The scholarship deadline is November 30th, 2026. Awards will be announced on the MSA web page and on social media at the start of 2027. Application forms and a statement of procedures are available at the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office. Scholarships are only available to students currently enrolled in one of the following three categories: 1. Mandated POST Skills Program 2. In their second year of a two-year law enforcement program. 3. In their third or fourth year of a four-year college criminal justice program. To qualify, students must have completed at least one year of the two-year program or two years of a four-year program. Students meeting these criteria are invited to obtain a scholarship application form from their local sheriff’s office or online at www.mnsheriffs.org.

Press Release: Division Street Trail Construction

Construction is proposed to start along CSAH 7, Division St W, Monday, June 8, 2026. The work includes the construction of a shared use trail along the South side of the road from Bemidji High School to CSAH 11 (Adams Ave NW) then crossing to the North side and continuing to CSAH 14 (Division St W). The project will be open to traffic; however, people are urged to find an alternative route to avoid delays. Expect ongoing construction activities including partial lane closures and shoulder closures. Work is expected to be completed by September 4th. Beltrami County Highway Department urges motorists to slow down and use caution when traveling in work zones. The Beltrami County Assessor’s Office reminds homeowners in order to receive homestead classification the State of Minnesota requires the property to have an application on file with the county. Beltrami County is reviewing parcels classified as homestead and property owners may receive a letter from Beltrami County requesting an updated application. Press Release: CSAH 20 Construction and Detour By Beltrami County Jun 25, 2026 Press Releases Road Construction CSAH 20, Closure and Detour Begins June 25, 2026 Utility work on County State Aid Highway 20 (Birchmont Beach Road NE) will result in a complete road closure starting June 25th, 2026 between CSAH 21 (Bemidji Road NE) and Country Club Road NE. The road will be closed to all thru traffic during the utility work. Access will be maintained to those who have businesses or residences along or only accessed by CSAH 20. A signed detour will be in place for the duration of the project, please follow the signed detour. Utility work is expected to go through July 2026. If you have questions or concerns during this project, please do not hesitate to call Beltrami County Highway Department at 218-333-8173. Please travel safely within the construction zone. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 26, 2026 Beltrami County Housing Trust Fund: Pre-Application Now Open for Large-Scale Housing Development Projects The Beltrami County Housing Trust Fund, administered by United Way of Bemidji Area, is now accepting pre-applications for large-scale construction and development projects. This initiative is an opportunity to address the critical need for housing in our community by enhancing availability, affordability, and accessibility for individuals and families in Beltrami County. We invite qualified non-profit, for-profit, and government entities to complete a pre-application for projects that expand and improve local housing options through construction, development, rehabilitation, or other innovative approaches. Proposals must increase the county's housing stock by a minimum of 100 units. Pre-applications are being accepted now through October 9, 2026. Submitting a pre-application does not guarantee funding; applicants will be notified whether they are invited to submit a full application. Interested developers are encouraged to review the eligibility requirements before applying. APPLICATION DEADLINE: October 9, 2026. Press Release: CSAH 42 Reconstruction Meeting The Beltrami County Highway Division will be holding an informational meeting regarding the reconstruction of Beltrami County State Aid Highway 42 (Lakewood Dr NW) on August 26th, 2026, at 6PM at the Northern Town Hall located at 445 Town Hall Rd NW, Bemidji, MN. Representatives from the Beltrami County Highway Division will give a brief overview of the construction plans. Members of the public who utilize CSAH 42 are encouraged to attend. No official action will be taken at this meeting. Information on the upcoming construction will be provided and questions will be taken. The area being reconstructed is CSAH 42 from CSAH 15 (Irvine Ave NW) to CSAH 21 (Bemidji Ave N.)

Press Release: 2026 Chip Sealing By Beltrami County Jul 20, 2026 Press Releases 2026 Cheap Sealing Chip seal operations will begin Monday, July 27, 2026, on various routes within the county. Chip sealing operations include application of a liquid emulsion to the road, covering it with small rock, rolling the rock into the oil with heavy rollers, and applying a final liquid emulsion to prolong the life of the road. During construction drivers may encounter wet oil and loose rock. Please avoid driving into wet oil and wait for the pilot cars that will be operating in the construction zone. Please use caution and reduce vehicle speed to help prevent vehicle damage as loose rock may be present. 2026 PILT Grants

TO: Applicants for PILT Grant Funds FROM: Kailey Rucinski, Auditor-Treasurer Accountant DATE: April 1, 2026 RE: PILT Funding Applications Posted on Beltrami County's website you will find the application for 2026 PILT Fund appropriations from Consolidated Conservation Funds. Con Con Funds are appropriated for activities in approximately the northern 1/3 of Beltrami County. Please complete the first two pages of the application, including any description of community involvement and support. The third page is the annual report to be completed when the project is complete and awarded funds are to be paid out. Applications are due to the Auditor-Treasurer's Office no later than May 31st at 4:30pm. Please pass this application and information on to anyone who may be interested. The May 31st deadline is very firm and we are grateful for your help in making sure groups in your area are aware of the grants. Funding Categories for this round of grants are Public Safety and Economic Development. The committee will meet in June with the final County Board funding decisions made in July.
