Egans Creek Greenway

A protected area of over 300 acres that runs north to south along Ron Sapp Egans Creek, the Greenway was opened for public use in the summer of 2000 as an undeveloped park for passive recreational use. Its grass-covered roads serve as a network of trails that are suitable for walking and bicycling, and its environment exhibits a variety of natural wildlife and vegetation.  Local wildlife, such as alligators, snakes, marsh rabbits, and many birds, may be enjoyed from a distance.  Benches and interpretive displays are located throughout the Greenway, and restrooms are available at the Nature Pavilion, located at the Greenway entrance behind the Atlantic Recreation Center on Atlantic Avenue. Ron Sapp Egans Creek Greenway brochures (with trails maps) are available at the Atlantic Recreation Center office and trailheads at Atlantic Avenue, Jasmine Street, and Sadler Road; or download one here: Egans Creek Greenway brochure and trails map Egans Creek Greenway brochure and trails map (text-only version) Accessibility If you would like to visit the Greenway and require assistance under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), please contact Patricia Haas by email at [email protected]. Rules

The park is open from sunrise to sundown. No overnight use. No motorized vehicles, fireworks, alcohol, hazardous materials, or fires are permitted. Dogs are welcome as long as they are leashed and their waste is not left on the trails. Fishing is permitted from bridges, but lines must be attended at all times and may not be tied off to bridge structures.  Traps are prohibited. Do not harass wildlife: Hunting is prohibited. Don't approach too closely (defensive action from the animal may result!) Don't chase Don't allow your pet(s) to chase Don't throw objects Don't feed Tours and other activities for hire are not permitted without prior notice and an approved written agreement with the City of Fernandina Beach.   For your safety and to avoid unnecessary disturbance of wildlife and habitat, please stay on the trails at all times.    Scoop the Poop! Scooping your pooch's poop isn't just a courtesy to your neighbors, it's good for the environment! Bring it - Make sure you have a plastic bag with you on every walk. Bag it - Scoop the poop every time. Trash it - Dispose of pet waste in the trash or flush it (without the bag). Dog feces contains more intestinal bacteria than humans, cows, and almost any wild animal. Dog waste washes into storm drains and ditches.  From there it heads straight to your local stream, river, or beach. The EPA reports that 2-3 days' worth of pet waste from just 100 dogs in a 20 square mile watershed can contribute enough bacteria to close a waterway to swimming and shell fishing. (US EPA, 1993)

Audit Process for Private Providers

Audit Process for Private Providers The Altamonte Springs Building and Fire Safety Department (BFSD) Performs Private Providers audits in accordance with State Statute 553.791.  Audits on single discipline permits including but not limited to, roof replacement, water heater replacement, solar and generator installs, may be conducted after the Private Providers notifies BFSD that a final inspection has been completed. If discrepancies are found, the Private Providers will be notified of the code compliance issues for correction. Correction of any non-code conformance issues will be the responsibility of the Private Providers to arrange with the contractor.   On large projects that involve multiple trades and/or permits, a preconstruction meeting with the Private Providers, contractor and BFSD will be conducted. This meeting will be to clarify the responsibility and duties of BFSD and Private Providers personnel including: Advising the Private Providers that the BFSD will be conducting all inspections relating to the Florida Fire Prevention Code. Advise the Private Providers that the Public Works Department will be conducting all site inspections including BMP compliance. The method of document delivery. Documenting rejection, control and follow up method. Time frame for completing the project. Time frames/need for notification of the BFSD of inspection requests and results. (As a baseline, the BFSD does not require notification of inspection requests or results on a daily basis. A weekly inspection result sheet, emailed to the BFSD, is acceptable in most situations.)  Stocking and Training permits, application process.  Close out process, obtaining a Certificate of Occupancy or Certificate of Completion. The BFSD does not issue Temporary Certificates of Completion (TCOs) Audit inspections may be conducted on a monthly or on a bi-monthly basis. BFSD staff will notify the contractor at least 1 week prior to performing the audit. Within one week after an audit BFSD will generate a report outlining any concerns. Deficiencies in this report will be reviewed at the next audit inspection.  Revisions to the project shall be provided to the BFSD prior to inspection of affected areas or building components. If the Private Provider is performing plan review duties the plan shall be delivered to BFSD once it has been reviewed and approved by the Private Provider.  Pre-Power A request for Pre-power shall include the follow procedures: The City “Request for Pre-Power” form shall be completed by the General Contractor and submitted to BFSD two business days prior to the inspection. The Building Official shall notify the Private Providers inspector that a “Request for Pre-Power” has been submitted by the project General Contractor.  The Private Providers inspector shall conduct a pre-power inspection for compliance with the conditions in the City’s “Request for Pre-Power” form.  If the Private Providers inspector determines that the project is ready for pre-power in accordance with the conditions of the City’s “Request for Pre-Power” form, they shall notify the BFSD who will conduct a quality assurance Electrical and fire inspection with the Private Providers inspector.  If the City inspectors concur that the project is ready for “pre-power”, the Private Providers inspector and the City electrical inspector will document such on the “Request for Pre-Power” form, and the City inspector will notify the electric utility provider. The date, time and name of the utility employee should be noted in the database. Training and Stocking Permits The BFSD offers training and stocking permits once the project is near completion.  The General Contractor shall complete the “Stocking and Training” application from the City web site. The Private Providers inspector shall inspect to the standard and conditions on the City’s “Stocking and Training” form. The Private Providers inspector shall complete the portions of the form requiring a building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical sign off.  The General Contractor shall request a stocking and training fire inspection from the BFSD. The BFSD fire inspector shall complete that portion of the form. Once all inspectors have executed the Stocking and Training form, the General Contractor shall submit the completed form to the BFSD, along with the appropriate fee, and will receive authorization to stock and train on the project.  The Private Providers inspector will ensure that the limitations of the “Stocking and Training” permit are abided by the owner, developer and contractor. The “Stocking and Training” permit is not a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) or a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO) (BFSD does not issue TCO’s). This permits only allows for the training of employees and the stocking of materials. The general public is not permitted in the building and business shall not commence until the Certificate of Occupancy has been issued. Closing Out the Permit (Certificate of Occupancy or Certificate of Completion) When closing out the project the following procedures shall be followed: Upon completion of all required inspections, the Private Providers shall prepare a Certificate of Compliance, under oath, stating: “To the best of my knowledge and belief, the building components and site improvements outlined herein and inspected under my authority have been completed in conformance with the approved plans and the applicable codes.” The Certificate of Compliance shall be submitted to the BFSD along with documentation of all completed inspections. Final building inspection does not release CO. All other obligations must also be completed prior to CO including, but not limited to, developer obligations, fire inspections, Public Works inspections and as-built/record drawing approval.  The City does not issue a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy.

Historic Districts

Copies of Historic District documents and maps may be obtained by clicking the boxes below. Alternatively, printed copies may be requested and purchased by contacting the department. Old Town Historic District Originally the site of the town of Fernandina, Old Town has the unique distinction of being the last Spanish city platted in the Western Hemisphere. Retaining the 1811 plat, as well as the historic homes in the area, is of special importance. Downtown Historic District When David Yulee established the railroad running from Fernandina to Cedar Key, the town shifted from Old Town to its present location. Buildings in the Downtown district reflect this late 19th and early 20th century development. Downtown Historic District Travel Guide - Courtesy of the Amelia Island Tourist Development Council In addition, the Amelia Island Lighthouse, the Peck Center, and the Oxley-Heard Funeral Home are individually designated historic district sites. Properties within the historic districts are protected through design guidelines, which are administered by the Historic District Council. In addition, the Historic District Council is charged with administering the CRA Design Guidelines for projects located in the City's Community Redevelopment Area.

Historic District Council (HDC) Member Binder

Welcome to the Historic District Council (HDC). The Historic District Council is the City’s primary agency responsible for furthering historic preservation within the city. As a board member there are multiple resources that you will often reference in your research and decision-making process. In previous years, new board members were provided with a large binder that contained many of these items such as the Land Development Code, District Guidelines, etc. In an effort to conserve resources and ensure our board members have the most up to date information, we have migrated this collection of resources to a digital format. This “virtual board member binder” is intended to serve as a central information point to the most commonly used board resources. "Get to Know How It Works | Build a Funeral Home Website | CFS GET STARTED CFS is now part of Tribute Technology → Learn More 1-888-881-6131 GET SUPPORT BOOK A DEMO HOW IT WORKS We Found a Better Way CFS websites include integrated flower ordering. Unlike other website providers, we don’t use wire services. Instead, we work directly with the local florists that you hand-pick and handle the transactions ourselves. Each of the florists that you nominate will operate a self-managed store in the CFS system. With this, they can: Set their own prices, receiving 100% of the amount they define. Add, remove and edit their own product offerings. Set their own store hours and vacation. Set the time they need to make flower arrangements. Your website marks up the florist’s wholesale prices and we split the proceeds with you 50/50. Our margin is significantly less than typical wire services. You may also forgo any or all of your commission, at your discretion, further reducing the retail markup. We Found a Better Way CFS websites include integrated flower ordering. I thought at first it was like the software programs in the past that used fill-in-the-blanks to input names into a badly written obituary. This is not the case.
