Newton, MS – October 9, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Newton, effective immediately as of 10:31 PM CDT on October 9, 2026. This warning will expire at 6:45 AM CDT on October 10, 2026.

Residents should prepare for potential moderate flooding due to additional rainfall amounts of approximately 1 inch. The NWS indicates that moderate rainfall flooding may prompt several evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may quickly become swollen, and small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches could overflow. Flood waters may enter some structures and weaken foundations, with expanded areas of rapid inundation expected in underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage areas. Driving conditions will become hazardous, and some road and bridge closures are possible. Consider protective actions if you are in an area vulnerable to flooding, and heed any flood watches and warnings.

While sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force, gusts up to 45 mph are possible. Community officials are currently assessing realized wind impacts. No tornadoes are expected at this time; however, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. Ensure emergency readiness should the forecast change, and listen for any instructions from local officials.
