A High Wind Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service Morristown TN, effective immediately until Sunday, October 11, at 8:00 AM EDT. Residents in affected areas are urged to secure loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind.

East winds are expected to reach 20 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 70 mph, particularly in higher elevations. This warning applies to portions of southwest North Carolina, east Tennessee, and southwest Virginia, specifically including Cherokee, Clay, Johnson, Cocke Smoky Mountains, Southeast Greene, Unicoi, Southeast Carter, Blount Smoky Mountains, Sevier Smoky Mountains, Southeast Monroe, East Polk, Russell, and Washington counties.

Damaging winds are anticipated to blow down trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages. Travel is expected to be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. While lower terrain areas may experience lesser impacts, the eastern Tennessee mountains and foothills are particularly vulnerable.

The National Weather Service Morristown TN advises taking immediate action to secure any outdoor items that could become airborne.
