High Wind Warning Issued: Secure Loose Objects Now, Power Outages Expected
A High Wind Warning is in effect from tonight until Sunday morning for multiple counties, with winds up to 70 mph expected to cause power outages and difficult travel; residents should secure loose objects now.
Residents in Johnson, Cocke Smoky Mountains, Southeast Greene, Unicoi, Southeast Carter, Blount Smoky Mountains, Sevier Smoky Mountains, Southeast Monroe, East Polk, Russell, and Washington counties are urged to secure loose objects immediately. A High Wind Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Morristown, TN, effective from midnight tonight, October 9, 2026, until 8:00 AM EDT Sunday, October 11, 2026.
East winds are expected to reach 20 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 70 mph, particularly in higher elevations. These damaging winds are predicted to cause widespread power outages and blow down trees and power lines. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
The NWS advises the public to secure any outdoor items that could be blown around or damaged by the strong winds.
