VA Expands Virtual Reality Pain Treatment for Veterans; New Nondrug Alternative Available

The Department of Veterans Affairs is expanding access to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-authorized virtual reality (VR) therapy designed to treat chronic pain. The program offers a nondrug alternative for veterans, a community that experiences higher rates of persistent pain than the general population. The program uses an eight-week curriculum that combines cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness and pain education. Veterans use a VR headset in their homes to engage with immersive environments that teach coping skills and breathing techniques. This approach aims to reduce reliance on opioids and invasive procedures by addressing both the psychological and physical aspects of pain. The technology is now available under the VA’s Federal Supply Schedule, allowing any VA provider to prescribe the treatment to eligible patients. Veterans using the program report significant improvements in pain levels, sleep quality and overall mental health. For more information about the program, visit innovation.va.gov/hil/views/immersive/immersive.html. The post Virtual reality pain treatment expands for veterans appeared first on DAV.

VA Releases 2023 National Veteran Suicide Report; Local DAV Chapter Highlights Care Access Gap

The Department of Veterans Affairs released its National Veteran Suicide Prevention Report in February 2026, analyzing data through 2023. Total veteran suicides fell slightly from 6,422 in 2022 to 6,398 in 2023, averaging 17.5 deaths per day. Despite this marginal decline, the report highlights a staggering gap in outreach: 61% of veterans who died by suicide in 2023 had not received VA health care during their final year of life. This disconnect underscores persistent barriers to care as the crisis evolves. The VA maintains suicide prevention as its top clinical priority, offering same-day emergency mental health services at all facilities. However, the data reveals that reaching those outside the system remains a critical challenge. Physical pain, homelessness and health problems continue to be primary risk factors for the veteran community, particularly among those ages 18 to 34. If you have questions or need assistance applying for VA health care, locate your nearest DAV service office at benefitsquestions.org. The post Veteran suicide report released appeared first on DAV.

Papua District Opens New Nazarene Ministry Learning Center

On 18 May 2026, the PNUP (Pendidikan Nazarene Untuk Pelayanan) Learning Center on the Papua District in Indonesia officially opened as a new learning center hub for the Sealands Field. This moment marked a significant milestone in the development of ministerial preparation in the district. The PNUP Learning Center in Papua is a symbol of the field and district’s commitment to expanding access to quality education for ministers across districts. The center will serve as a decentralized educational facility aimed at offering quality education and equipping ministers to effectively serve in ministry. Here, ministers pursuing ordination or seeking to deepen their understanding of theology and ministry can receive comprehensive Nazarene education without leaving their respective areas to enroll in a formal school. The PNUP Learning Center in Papua also makes history as the first of its kind on the Sealands Field. Therefore, this opening is a strategic and inspiring step toward the future development of the educational ministry. It is hoped that each district in the Sealands Field will eventually have a learning center in its respective area, so that Nazarene education can reach more servants of God effectively and equitably. The opening ceremony was filled with joy, enthusiasm, and thanksgiving to God. Pastors, district and local church leaders, ministers, church members, and invited guests were present to witness the commencement of this educational ministry. The event also received attention and support from the Jayapura City Government. Evert Nicolas Merauje, the assistant for government affairs of the Jayapura City Regional Secretariat, represented the government. “The church is called to serve,” said Merauje, “but it must also be present and meaningful to the community. Programs like PNUP are very positive because they address real needs within the community.” He also expressed his appreciation to the Church of the Nazarene, especially in the Papua District, for its continued innovation in ministry through education. He stated that the program is expected to spread the same spirit of innovation and service within the community. –Church of the Nazarene Asia-Pacific Region The post Papua District equips ministers through new learning center appeared first on Church of the Nazarene.

Flags of the Nations: Mali

Since September 1, 2009, the Church of the Nazarene’s Global Ministry Center (GMC) proudly flies a flag each week of one of the many nations in which the denomination is present in ministry. Leaders were invited to send a national flag to be flown at the GMC alongside the flag of the United States*. The national flags rotate weekly, and photos of them raised are sent to the church leaders of that country. This week: Mali The Church of the Nazarene officially entered Mali in 2010. Mali had a population of 22,634,423 in 2025. Mali has not yet reported any Churches of the Nazarene. Mali is on the Africa Region. For more information about the Africa Region, visit africanazarene.org. * = The weekly highlighted flag is raised on the middle of three poles in compliance with U.S. government protocols. It flies to the left of the GMC host-nation United States flag, which flies above the host-state flag of Kansas. The Christian flag flies on the third pole. Family Worship Conference with Shai and Blair Linne

"Two weekends ago, Grace Fellowship had the privilege of hosting Shai and Blair Linne for the Family Worship Conference. It was a time of deep encouragement aimed at strengthening worship both in our individual homes and within our gathered church body. Through teaching, testimony, and creative communication, the Linnes called us to see family life as a primary context for discipleship—a place where the Word, prayer, and praise become the normal, everyday rhythms of life. For those who were unable to join us, we wanted to share a brief recap of the rich theology and practical hope discussed during our time together.________________________A Big View of God for the Next GenerationShai Linne drew from his experience as a pastor and artist to show how even the deepest truths of Scripture can be communicated simply and memorably to children and teens. His plea to parents and caregivers was clear: give the next generation a big view of God. By using Scripture, song, and honest conversations about sin and grace, we can help our children see the magnitude of His character.Hope in the Midst of BrokennessBlair Linne reminded us that God is not looking for "perfect" families to use. Sharing from her own story, she spoke to those from painful or complex backgrounds—divorce, father-absence, and past wounds. She pointed us to our deeper identity in Christ, reminding us that He meets us in our weakness. Family worship is not about showcasing a flawless home; it is about consistently turning a messy home toward a perfect Savior.Simple Rhythms for Every HouseholdThe Linnes emphasized that family worship doesn’t have to be long or complicated to be effective. It simply needs to be regular and rooted in the Bible. They encouraged simple practices:The Word: Reading a passage aloud and letting God’s Word set the tone for conversation.Prayer: Praying in concrete ways—confessing sin, thanking Him, and interceding for others.Song: Singing biblically rich songs and hymns to help children hide truth in their hearts.________________________Resources for Your HomeWe want to help you take the next step in establishing these rhythms. Below are several resources recommended by our team that align with the principles shared by the Linnes:For Every Chapter of Scripture: The Family Worship Bible Guide by Joel R. Beeke. This invaluable resource provides concise commentary and application questions for every single chapter of the Bible, making it an excellent companion for your daily readings. For a Practical Overview: Family Worship by Donald S. Whitney. This is the gold standard for a simple "read, pray, sing" approach that fits into any schedule. For Young Children: The Biggest Story Bible Storybook by Kevin DeYoung or The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones.In addition to these options, we invite you to check out our physical church library. We have many of these titles—and several other helpful resources—available for you to borrow as you seek to lead your family in the knowledge of Him.Our prayer is that the momentum from this weekend continues to stir a hunger in our homes to know Him more deeply. Whether you are starting for the first time or restarting for the tenth time, remember: Christ is enough, and His grace is sufficient for every home."
