The Alachua County Historical Commission met Sunday, September 13, 2026, to discuss initiatives for preserving and promoting county history. Key topics included a proposed award to honor history preservers and updates on the Virtual Cemetery project.

Commission members explored creating an award to recognize individuals and institutions dedicated to safeguarding Alachua County's heritage. The commission discussed criteria and the nomination process for this new honor.

Other agenda items included progress on the 3-Minute History Reading initiative, efforts concerning historic cemeteries, and planning for the Alachua County Historical Organizations Conference. Work on the Historical Commission website continues.
