New Smyrna Beach residents and visitors can now enjoy a brand-new playground at Esther Street Beachfront Park. The updated play area, located at 551 Esther St., features a modern two-tower structure situated on padded turf, replacing the former small, monochromatic playground that was set on wood mulch.
The park's location, just two blocks north of Flagler Avenue, makes the new playground an accessible amenity for families in the area. While the playground itself is now open, residents can anticipate the installation of shade sails, which are expected to be completed by mid-2027.
This upgrade is part of a broader initiative by the city to enhance public recreational spaces. Other playground projects are currently underway or planned across New Smyrna Beach. At the New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex, a 30-foot-tall, baseball-themed net tower is under construction, complemented by sensory and inclusive play elements. Additionally, Detwiler Park in Central Beach is set to receive a 20-foot-tall climbing dome, complete with swings and a toddler play tower, which is scheduled to be installed this fall.
