Wendall Alvis Holmes, age 72, of Bluff Dale, Texas, left this earth to join his Savior in Heaven on May 26, 2026.Wendall was born on June 15, 1953 in Fort Worth, Texas to the late JW Holmes and Ethel Harmon (Teeters) Holmes. He grew up in Joshua and spent most of his adult life in the Tolar area. In his younger years, he enjoyed participating in rodeo play days, sports of all kinds, and bull riding. He was voted FFA president, football captain, and “best-looking” for the Joshua High School class of 1972.One of the ways Wendall showed his love was by working to provide for his family. He had been put to work in his family’s grocery store by the time he started grade-school. Over the years, he worked in numerous other family businesses before becoming self-employed as a custom-farmer and rancher. Later, he worked for and retired from XTO Energy as a field operator. In early 1973, Wendall was introduced to Beverly Gail Wallis by mutual friends, and the two were married on July 20, 1974. Wendall was very proud of their nearly 52 years together, and in later years, lovingly referred to Beverly as his “angel.”Together Wendall and Beverly raised three children and taught them the value of a strong work ethic, honesty, and resilience. Wendall was proud of his kids, and he delighted in his grandkids, who knew him as “Pa.” Friends and family will remember him as a man of strong convictions and firm opinions. He enjoyed hunting, being horseback, checking cows, the mountains, old western movies, and german chocolate cake. He especially loved teasing and aggravating those he loved most.Wendall was baptized at the Bluff Dale Baptist Church on January 28, 2024, where he was an active member. His favorite Bible passage was the 23rd Psalm.Wendall is survived by his wife Beverly Holmes; children, Natalie Rounsaville of Round Timber, Texas, Wes (Justine Owen) Holmes of Kent, Texas, and D’Anna (Phillip) Dempsey of Rainbow, Texas; grandchildren, JW Rounsaville, Hoyt Dempsey, Clyde Rounsaville, Landri Holmes, Clara Dempsey, Eliza Rounsaville, and Haize Holmes; and sister, Kristi Kyle of Gilmer, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, JW and Ethel Holmes, and siblings, Donna Kay Owens and Jay Wayne Holmes.A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 31st at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury from 5 to 7 pm. And, the funeral will be held on Monday, June 1st at Bluff Dale Baptist Church at 10 am.
