Mariners are advised to alter plans and seek safe harbor due to a Gale Warning issued for the Coastal Waters from Cape Charles Light to the Virginia-North Carolina border, extending 20 nautical miles offshore. The warning is effective immediately, September 23 at 9:04 PM EDT, and remains in effect until Friday, September 25 at 7:00 AM EDT.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield, VA, has issued this warning, indicating anticipated northeast winds between 25 and 35 knots, with gusts reaching up to 45 knots. Seas are expected to be hazardous, ranging from 9 to 14 feet.

These strong winds and high seas pose a significant risk, with the potential to capsize or damage vessels and severely reduce visibility. Mariners should remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure their vessels for these hazardous conditions.
