Pulse Field Ablation for Heart Rhythm in Naples
Naples Comprehensive Health physicians are treating atrial fibrillation with pulse field ablation, a procedure that uses targeted electrical pulses to correct irregular heartbeats while preserving healthy heart tissue.
The technology differs from traditional ablation methods that use heat or cold energy. Pulse field ablation delivers brief electrical pulses through catheters inserted into the heart, creating lesions in tissue that generates abnormal signals while avoiding nearby nerves, blood vessels, and the esophagus.
Michael Lee, a Naples patient who underwent the procedure, returned to normal activities without an overnight hospital stay. Traditional ablation procedures often require extended monitoring.
Atrial fibrillation causes the heart's upper chambers to beat irregularly, increasing stroke risk. Medications, cardioversion, and catheter ablation have been standard treatments for patients whose symptoms persist.
NCH physicians are participating in clinical trials to refine the technology and support FDA approval efforts. Patients can discuss pulse field ablation with their cardiologist to determine eligibility for the procedure or trial participation.
