Dr. Javier Muñoz Leads NCH Cancer Program in Naples
Naples Comprehensive Health appointed Dr. Javier Muñoz as medical director of its cancer program on May 29, 2026. Muñoz, who trained at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix and Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, will also practice as a medical oncologist in the NCH oncology clinic.
The appointment aims to consolidate fragmented cancer services across Southwest Florida into one integrated program. Muñoz will oversee surgical, medical, radiation and supportive oncology services while recruiting physicians, expanding clinical trial access and leading quality initiatives.
"Dr. Muñoz brings exceptional clinical expertise and a proven ability to build high-performing oncology programs," Paul Hiltz, NCH president and CEO, said in a statement.
Leonidas Platanias, director of Northwestern University's Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, added that Muñoz's leadership will help patients in Southwest Florida access "cancer care that reflects the standards of an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center."
NCH and Northwestern Medicine conducted a national search for the position through a Cancer Committee established in late 2025. NCH has secured early philanthropic support for the initiative.
