HALE COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Hale County, including the communities of Greensboro and Moundville, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective today, October 8, 2026, at 4:07 PM CDT. This watch is set to expire on October 9, 2026, at 12:15 AM CDT.
Residents should prepare for hazardous winds between 39 to 57 mph, with peak gusts potentially reaching 45 mph. The NWS advises completing all efforts to protect property as soon as possible and moving to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Potential impacts include damage to porches, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect downed tree limbs, a few snapped or uprooted trees, and scattered power and communications outages. Some roads may become impassable due to debris, and hazardous driving conditions are possible on elevated roadways.
A Flood Watch is also in effect for Hale County, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is anticipated. Emergency plans should include the potential for evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may quickly swell, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Driving conditions will become hazardous due to widespread rapid inundation in low-lying areas and overflowing storm drains.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time, though showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. Stay informed of the latest forecast changes. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
