HALE COUNTY, AL – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Hale County, including Greensboro and Moundville, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective today, October 8, 2026, at 12:59 PM CDT until 9:00 PM CDT. Residents should finalize preparations for hazardous weather conditions.

Forecasts indicate peak winds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including potential harm to porches, sheds, unanchored mobile homes, and downed tree limbs. Scattered power outages are possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Expect 2-4 inches of rain, with higher localized amounts, posing a moderate flooding risk. Rivers and creeks may overflow, causing road closures and hazardous driving conditions. Be prepared for potential evacuations and rescues in flood-prone areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

There is also a potential for a few tornadoes. Have an emergency plan and be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. For more information and preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
