Residents of Inland Jefferson County, specifically Monticello and Wacissa, are urged to complete all preparations now as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This alert is effective immediately, October 9 at 8:28 AM EDT, and expires at 4:30 PM UTC on the same day.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with potential for an additional 3-6 inches of rain, and locally higher amounts. This could lead to major flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately. The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. Those in manufactured homes or boats should relocate to safe shelter.

Wind speeds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are expected, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway, including securing loose objects. Limited damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect some large tree limbs to break and potential power outages. No storm surge inundation is forecast.
