A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Coastal Jefferson County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 11:05 PM EDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee, FL. This warning signifies an Extreme threat, with potential for life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground in surge-prone areas through Saturday morning.

Residents in Coastal Jefferson County are advised to complete all evacuation efforts and flood preparations now. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Failure to act could lead to serious injury or loss of life.

In addition to the storm surge, a Flood Watch is in effect with an increased threat of major flooding rain, expecting an additional 6-10 inches, and locally higher amounts. The NWS also indicates a potential for several tornadoes, urging residents to stay informed and be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. While winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force, gusts up to 35 mph are possible.
