Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Coastal Jefferson: Life-Threatening Storm Surge Expected
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coastal Jefferson County, with a life-threatening storm surge of 2-4 feet, a Flood Watch for major flooding, and a Tornado Watch issued by NWS Tallahassee FL.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coastal Jefferson County, effective immediately from the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL as of October 10 at 2:07 AM EDT. This warning remains in effect until 10:15 AM UTC today, October 10, 2026.
Residents in Coastal Jefferson are urged to take immediate action due to a life-threatening storm surge with potential inundation of 2-4 feet above ground, particularly around high tide. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees must remain in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Do not venture outside.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain possible, leading to potential major flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. A Tornado Watch is also active, indicating conditions favorable for several tornadoes. Be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.
While sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (10-20 mph with gusts to 40 mph), listen for instructions from local officials.
