Tropical Storm Warning for Coastal Jefferson: Life-Threatening Storm Surge, Tornadoes
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coastal Jefferson County, bringing threats of life-threatening storm surge, major flooding rain, and potential tornadoes; residents must shelter in place if not already evacuated and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coastal Jefferson County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 5:05 PM EDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. This warning remains in effect until October 10 at 1:15 AM UTC.
Coastal Jefferson County residents face a severe threat from life-threatening storm surge, with potential inundation of 4-6 feet above ground in surge-prone areas through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. All evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, potentially causing major flooding, evacuations, and rescues. A Tornado Watch is also in effect, indicating a very favorable situation for many tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
While sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (20-30 mph with gusts to 40 mph), gusty conditions are possible. Little to no additional wind impacts are expected, and community officials are assessing current impacts.
