MONTGOMERY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Montgomery, effective October 8, 2026, at 12:59 PM CDT until 9:00 PM CDT. Residents are advised to prepare for hazardous wind, moderate flooding rain, and the potential for several tornadoes.

Wind speeds are forecasted to reach 20-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes. Large tree limbs may break, and some fences and roadway signs could blow over. Scattered power and communications outages are possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could swell, and small streams may overflow. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.

Conditions are favorable for tornadoes. Residents in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
