MONTGOMERY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Montgomery, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, as of October 8 at 7:10 PM CDT. Residents must finalize preparations for hazardous winds, potential flooding, and the possibility of tornadoes.
Wind speeds are forecast between 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Damage to unsecured structures, large tree limbs, and some power outages are possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is anticipated, potentially causing road closures and necessitating evacuations. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued.
