A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Montgomery until 6:30 PM CDT, with hazardous winds up to 50 mph and potential moderate flooding; residents should prepare for impacts and move to safe shelter.
MONTGOMERY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Montgomery by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:17 AM CDT. This warning remains in effect until 6:30 PM CDT today.
Residents in Montgomery should prepare for hazardous winds and potential moderate flooding. Peak wind forecasts predict 25-35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. The NWS advises completing all property protection efforts as soon as possible and moving to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect large tree limbs to break and some trees to snap or uproot, potentially leading to scattered power and communication outages. Roads may become impassable due to debris.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with additional rainfall of 1-3 inches expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and small streams and creeks could overflow. Floodwaters may enter some structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS currently reports that the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, and they are not expected. For more information and to stay updated, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
