Tropical Storm Warning for Montgomery: Prepare for Hazardous Winds, Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Montgomery, with hazardous winds and moderate flooding expected; residents should seek shelter and prepare for potential damage and outages.
MONTGOMERY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Montgomery by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 4:08 AM CDT. Residents are advised to move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin and to prepare for potential flooding.
The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, posing a threat of winds reaching 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage is possible, including to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs, some downed trees, and potential road impassability due to debris. Scattered power and communications outages are also possible. All remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This presents a potential for moderate flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could swell, and small streams may overflow. Floodwaters could enter some structures, and driving conditions may become hazardous with some road and bridge closures. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed all flood watches and warnings.
The tornado threat has decreased, and tornadoes are not expected. The Tropical Storm Warning is set to expire on October 9 at 12:15 PM UTC. For more information, visit http://ready.gov/hurricanes.
