MONROE COUNTY, AL – October 8, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Monroe County, effective immediately. This severe weather alert, issued at 4:04 PM CDT, affects residents in Homewood and Monroeville, warning of dangerous winds and the potential for major flooding.
Residents should complete all remaining efforts to protect life and property as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. The NWS forecasts peak winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 85 mph, posing a significant threat of 58 to 73 mph winds. Potential impacts include damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings, with some structures experiencing window, door, and garage failures. Unsecured lightweight objects can become dangerous projectiles. Several trees may be snapped or uprooted, leading to impassable roads and scattered power and communication outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected and locally higher amounts. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding, and evacuations and rescues are likely. Strong protective actions are advised, especially in flood-vulnerable areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Major rainfall flooding may prompt widespread evacuations and rescues, with rivers and tributaries overflowing and floodwaters entering structures.
Tornadoes are not expected, according to the NWS, though showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur.
