A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Monroe County, with dangerous winds and significant flooding expected from Friday evening through early Saturday morning; residents should secure property and prepare for evacuations.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Monroe County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 9:57 PM CDT. The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL, warns residents in Homewood and Monroeville to prepare for dangerous wind conditions and significant flooding.
Strong tropical storm force winds of 35-45 mph, with gusts up to 75 mph, are expected from Friday evening until early Saturday morning. Residents should complete all remaining efforts to protect life and property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Potential impacts include damage to roofing, mobile homes, and trees, along with impassable roads and scattered power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain and locally higher amounts possible. Major rainfall flooding is anticipated, potentially leading to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and floodwaters could impact structures and make roads dangerous or impassable. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life.
