Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Monroe County: Shelter Now

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Monroe County, including Homewood and Monroeville, with dangerous winds, major flooding potential, and possible tornadoes expected to begin this evening. Shelter immediately and heed all warnings.

MONROE COUNTY, AL – October 9, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Monroe County, including Homewood and Monroeville, effective immediately. Residents are urged to shelter from dangerous winds as last-minute preparations should now be complete.

Tropical Storm force winds, with peak gusts of 35-45 mph and gusts up to 60 mph, are expected to begin early this evening and continue through Saturday morning. Significant wind damage is possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain anticipated, leading to potential major flooding. Emergency plans should include the likelihood of evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.

The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for a few tornadoes. Stay informed of the latest tornado situation within your shelter and move quickly to the safest place if a tornado warning is issued.
