Residents of Monroe County, including Homewood and Monroeville, must immediately shelter from dangerous tropical storm-force winds. A Tropical Storm Warning, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, is in effect as of 1:02 AM CDT on October 10. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours.

Peak wind gusts of up to 55 mph are forecast, with a potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Last-minute preparations to protect life and property should now be complete. The area faces significant wind damage. Potential impacts from the main wind event are unfolding.

Emergency plans must also include the potential for major flooding from heavy rain. The NWS indicates that major rainfall flooding may prompt widespread evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could rapidly overflow their banks, and floodwaters may enter many structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action will likely result in serious injury or loss of life.

Tornadoes are not expected, though gusty showers and thunderstorms may occur. This warning is effective until 9:15 AM UTC on October 10. For local information, contact Monroe County EMA at 251-743-3259 or visit www.facebook.com/monroeema. For storm impacts, refer to www.weather.gov/mob.
