A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Mobile Central, including Mobile, Prichard, and Theodore, issued today, October 9, at 4:07 AM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. This warning is deemed Extreme in severity and Immediate in urgency, remaining effective until 12:15 PM UTC today.

Residents in affected areas must move to safe shelter immediately as dangerous winds of 58 to 73 mph are expected. Significant damage to property is possible, including roofing, siding, and mobile homes, with unsecured objects becoming dangerous projectiles. Scattered power and communications outages are also anticipated.

Life-threatening storm surge flooding of 3-5 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees must remain in safe shelters away from surge areas. Potential impacts from the main surge event are currently unfolding.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. This may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and roads may become impassable.

For evacuation and shelter information, contact Mobile County EMA at 251-460-8000 or visit mobilecountyema.gov. For storm surge graphics and other storm impacts, visit www.weather.gov/mob.
