Residents and visitors along the coastal areas of Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Counties should be aware of a High Rip Current Risk and a Coastal Flood Advisory, as issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL.

The High Rip Current Risk is in effect immediately and will continue through Monday evening, October 5. Dangerous rip currents are expected, which can pull even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect from midnight tonight until 8 AM CDT Sunday. Minor coastal flooding is expected, potentially affecting lots, parks, and roads with isolated closures. If travel is necessary during this time, allow extra time and do not drive around barricades or through floodwaters of unknown depth. Property owners in flood-prone areas should take necessary protective actions.

For those entering the water, the NWS advises swimming near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If unable to escape, face the shore and signal for help by calling or waving.
