Red Flag Warning: High Fire Danger for West Humboldt, Lahontan Basins

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for West Humboldt and Lahontan Basins from 9:58 AM to 10:00 PM PDT today, September 25, due to strong winds and low humidity, significantly increasing fire danger.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the West Humboldt Basin in Pershing County and the Lahontan Basin, including Churchill and Eastern Mineral Counties, from 9:58 AM PDT today, September 25, until 10:00 PM PDT tonight. The National Weather Service in Reno has issued this warning due to critical fire weather conditions.

Southwest to west winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. These winds will shift to northerly/northwesterly in the evening and overnight. Humidity levels will drop as low as 12 to 17 percent this afternoon. These conditions, lasting 4 to 7 hours, significantly increase the risk of rapid fire growth and intensity.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activities that could cause a spark near dry vegetation. This includes yard work, target shooting, and campfires. Please adhere to all local fire restrictions. For ongoing updates, visit weather.gov/reno, and for preparedness tips, consult livingwithfire.info.
