Lake Wind Advisory Issued for Mono, Mineral, and Southern Lyon Counties
A Lake Wind Advisory has been issued by the NWS Reno NV for Mono, Mineral, and Southern Lyon Counties, effective from today until Saturday, October 10, at 11:00 PM PDT, warning of hazardous conditions for small craft due to strong winds and rough waves.
Boaters in Mono, Mineral, and Southern Lyon Counties are advised to check lake conditions and consider postponing activities due to a newly issued Lake Wind Advisory.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno, NV, issued the advisory today, October 9, at 12:47 PM PDT. It remains in effect until Saturday, October 10, at 11:00 PM PDT. Southwest winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, during this period.
These conditions will create rough waves on area lakes, posing hazardous conditions, particularly for small craft. The NWS advises checking current lake conditions before heading out and being prepared for a sudden increase in winds and wave heights. Residents are urged to consider postponing boating activities until conditions improve.
