Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Miller County; Prepare for Hazards
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Miller and Colquitt counties, effective immediately, urging residents to prepare for hazardous winds, potential major flooding, and the risk of tornadoes.
MILLER COUNTY, GA – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Miller County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:57 PM EDT, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee, FL. This warning is for Miller and Colquitt counties and is set to expire at 7:00 AM UTC on October 10.
Residents should prepare for hazardous winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for 39-57 mph winds. All remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Damage to unanchored mobile homes, large tree limbs, and some fences is possible, with scattered power and communications outages expected.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain anticipated, potentially leading to major flooding. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding; evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Rivers and small streams may rapidly overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures, making driving conditions dangerous with many road closures.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats are urged to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Significant impacts are possible, including roofs torn off, mobile homes demolished, and widespread power loss.
