A Wind Advisory has been issued for Bell, Harlan, and Letcher Counties until 5:00 AM EDT Sunday, October 11, 2026. The National Weather Service in Jackson, KY, warns of southeast winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts reaching 35 to 50 mph.
These strong gusts are particularly expected over higher terrain above 1,500 feet and in valleys immediately northwest of the Pine, Black, Cumberland, and Log Mountains. Communities at greatest risk include Cumberland, Eolia, Chenoa, Frakes, and Mayking. Areas further from these prominent mountains can expect winds of 10 to 15 mph with occasional gusts of 20 to 35 mph.
Impacts include unsecured objects being blown around. Tree limbs and weakly rooted trees in steep terrain could be blown down, potentially leading to power outages.
Residents are advised to use extra caution, especially those driving high-profile vehicles, as strong winds can make driving difficult.
