Drivers in Eastern Kentucky are urged to exercise extreme caution this morning, September 29, due to dense fog developing in valley areas. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, KY, issued a Special Weather Statement effective at 3:35 AM EDT, warning of reduced visibilities, potentially to a quarter-mile or less.

The affected counties include Fleming, Montgomery, Bath, Rowan, Estill, Powell, Menifee, Rockcastle, Jackson, Pulaski, Laurel, Wayne, McCreary, Whitley, Knox, Bell, Harlan, Elliott, Morgan, Johnson, Wolfe, Magoffin, Floyd, Lee, Breathitt, Knott, Owsley, Perry, Clay, Leslie, Letcher, Martin, and Pike. The NWS anticipates the fog will begin to clear by 9 AM EDT.

Motorists should slow down, maintain ample distance between vehicles, and use low-beam headlights. Allow extra time for travel to your destination. The Special Weather Statement is set to expire at 10:15 AM EDT.
