Property taxes were due on August 13, and late payments and interest charges have been assessed on unpaid tax bills. The next interest charges will be applied in December. “Our office is committed to doing everything we can to help residents stay current on their property taxes and, most importantly, stay in their homes,” said Cuyahoga County Treasurer Brad Cromes. “We offer a variety of payment options for those who have fallen behind, and we encourage anyone who needs additional support to visit our Financial Empowerment Center. Our goal is to work with residents, connect them with the right resources, and guide them toward financial stability.” Under Ohio law, delinquent property taxes accumulate compounding penalties and interest charges. If left unresolved, those charges can result in significantly higher tax burdens and, ultimately, foreclosure. The Treasurer’s Office offers a variety of delinquent tax payment plans to help property owners get back on track, while making smaller payments over time. Payment plans may be extended for up to 60 months, with interest deferred. If those payment plans are successfully completed, interest charges are forgiven. Property owners can also arrange for monthly automatic payments to be deducted from their bank accounts. To remain in good standing, property owners enrolled in a delinquent tax payment plan will need to pay their current property taxes on time. While a delinquent tax payment plan remains in good standing, the associated parcel will not be subject to a tax certificate sale or placed on the Sheriff’s Sale list. Residents experiencing financial challenges are encouraged to seek assistance from the Cuyahoga County Financial Empowerment Center. There, residents can speak with counselors one-on-one for help with budgeting, debt reduction, preventing foreclosures, and creating greater financial stability. Residents can explore options for setting up a delinquent tax contract in person on a walk-in basis at the Treasurer’s Office located at 2079 E. 9th Street Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. For more information about delinquent tax assistance, contact the Treasurer’s Office at 216-443-7400 (option 1). Quality Inn to remain open during renovation into Hearth & Forge Hotel LOCAL Local investors acquire downtown hotel as part of $10 million project Lou WhitmireMansfield News Journal Sept. 16, 2026, 5:14 a.m. ET A local investment group led by Mansfield entrepreneur Jay Goyal and hotelier Snehal Patel has completed the purchase of the Quality Inn & Suites at 116 Park Avenue West, launching a $10 million effort to create a boutique hotel. The goal is to remake the property into the Hearth & Forge Hotel and bring new life to downtown Mansfield with a high-quality, full-service hotel and gathering place that's a Choice Hotels' Ascend Collection Hotel, according to a press release. “This is an exciting day for downtown Mansfield,” Goyal said. “For a long time, we’ve talked about what this property could be again. Today, we get to start making that vision real. We have an incredible building, an irreplaceable downtown location, tremendous community support and a group of local investors who believe deeply in Mansfield and its future. We can’t wait to get to work.” The hotel will operate as the Quality Inn & Suites Downtown Mansfield during renovation. Over the coming months, the property will undergo "a comprehensive transformation touching virtually every part of the hotel," Goyal said. The Hearth & Forge will be the Mansfield area’s only full-service upscale boutique hotel and will feature a restaurant and bar, meeting and event facilities and amenities for hotel guests and locals. Investors plan to hold a grand opening in summer 2027. “Our goal isn’t simply to renovate a hotel. We want to create a destination,” Patel said. “We want guests coming to Mansfield to have a hotel that feels special and reflects the character of this community while also creating a place local residents want to use for weddings, meetings, celebrations, dinner, drinks and events. This property hastremendous potential, and we’re excited to bring it back to life.” Park National Bank provided financing for the project. “We approached a number of financial institutions about this project, and Park National Bank really stepped up,” Goyal said. “They understood that this wasn’t just about financing a hotel. They saw what this project could mean for downtown Mansfield and for the broader community ... I want everyone in the community to know that this project would not be happening without Park National Bank's support. "We owe Park National and especially Chris (Hiner), Barb (Miller) and Scott (Heiman) a tremendous debt of gratitude — in addition to a fairly substantial mound of actual debt.” Mansfield City Council approved a 12-year, 75% property tax abatement for the redevelopment earlier this year, Goyal said, and the Ohio Department of Development approved a $528,000 tax credit. The investment group behind the project includes Mark and Beth DeLaney, David and Leslie Eichinger, the Gorman Family, Rich and Gayle Gorman Green, Chuck Hahn, John and Maura Siegenthaler, Rick and Carol Taylor, Goyal and Patel. “For us, the fact that this is a locally driven project matters,” Goyal said. “These are people who live here, work here, have built businesses here and care about what Mansfield looks like 10 and 20 years from now. We all see the same opportunity: to take an important property that has fallen short of its potential and turn it into something the entire community can be proud of.” Plans call for reducing the hotel’s room count while creating larger rooms and suites, Goyal said. Design, engineering and pre-construction work are already underway, with construction activity expected to ramp up in the coming months. “We think something special is happening in downtown Mansfield,” Goyal said. “There are a lot of people investing, taking risks and believing in this community. The Hearth & Forge is one more piece of that momentum. ODNR Launches New Website to Buy Ohio-Grown Trees
COLUMBUS, Ohio – From buckeye to pawpaw to American chestnut, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Forestry is making it easier for Ohioans to purchase locally-grown trees with the Buckeye State Tree Nursery online ordering system. Customers can visit nursery.ohiodnr.gov to browse available tree species and place orders directly online. The new system expands access to seedlings grown at the Buckeye State Tree Nursery in Zanesville. It allows customers to choose between picking up their orders at the nursery or having seedlings shipped directly to them. “The Buckeye State Tree Nursery was created to make more Ohio-grown trees available for conservation tree planting projects, and this new website makes it much easier for landowners and organizations to be part of that effort,” said Division of Forestry Chief Dan Balser. “Whether someone is restoring a woodland, creating wildlife habitat, establishing a windbreak, or simply adding trees to their property, they can now easily purchase seedlings grown right here in Ohio.” The minimum purchase is 10 seedlings. Available species and quantities will vary throughout the year. The Buckeye State Tree Nursery was established to increase the availability of locally grown seedlings for conservation projects across Ohio. Nursery staff planted more than 750,000 seedlings during its first two growing seasons, representing more than 30 native tree and shrub species. Seedlings grown at the nursery support both private landowners and conservation projects throughout the state. Trees from the nursery have been used for reforestation, wildlife habitat, windbreaks, state forests and nature preserves, abandoned mine land restoration, and other natural resource projects. Growing seedlings from seeds collected in Ohio also helps ensure trees are well-suited to the state’s climate and growing conditions while providing a reliable source of planting stock for future conservation needs. Get tips on the best materials to use to set up a curbside mailbox and how to keep it in good condition. Make sure that your mail carrier always has a clear path to your mailbox whether it's by the street or mounted on your house. Curbside Mailboxes Mailbox Size & Construction Standards A mailbox with the Postmaster General's (PMG) seal of approval meets USPS size and construction standards. If you build your own mailbox or buy a custom-made one, it must meet the PMG standards. Show your local postmaster your mailbox plans or your custom-made box for approval. Where to Place the Mailbox Here are some helpful guidelines to follow when placing your mailbox: Position your mailbox 41″ to 45″ from the road surface to the bottom of the mailbox or point of mail entry. Place your mailbox 6″ to 8″ back from the curb. If you do not have a raised curb, contact your local postmaster for guidance. Put your house or apartment number on the mailbox. If your mailbox is on a different street from your house or apartment, put your full street address on the box. Where to Place the Mailbox × Installing the Mailbox Post The best mailbox supports are stable but bend or fall away if a car hits them. The Federal Highway Administration recommends: A 4″ x 4″ wooden support or a 2″-diameter standard steel or aluminum pipe. Avoid unyielding and potentially dangerous supports, like heavy metal pipes, concrete posts, and farm equipment (e.g., milk cans filled with concrete). Bury your post no more than 24″ deep. Door Slots & Wall Mailboxes Approved Door Slots Some homes and apartments have a slot in the door for receiving mail instead of a mailbox. The standards for an approved door slot are: The opening must be at least 1 1/2″ x 7″. The bottom of the slot must be at least 30″ above floor. Horizontal slots must have a flap hinged at the top. Vertical slots must be hinged on the opposite side from the door's hinges. For greater privacy, you can also install a mail slot hood on the inside of your door to prevent someone from seeing into your home. The standards for door slot hoods are: The hood should not project more than 2 1/16″ beyond the inside of the door. On a horizontal slot, the hood should not extend below the bottom of the outside plate. On a vertical slot, the hood should not extend beyond the side of the outside plate on same side as the door's hinges. Wall-Mounted Mailboxes To replace your curbside mailbox with a wall-mounted mailbox, you must get your local postmaster's permission. Choose from a variety of mailbox sizes and styles; mounted mailboxes are not required to have a PMG seal of approval. Get a wall mailbox that can hold a normal day's mail volume, including letter-sized envelopes, postcards, and catalogs.* Place the mailbox near the main entrance so your mail carrier can easily see it. *Note: Wall-mounted mailboxes may only be used for items with postage. Newspapers may not be placed in the mailbox. Maintenance Mailboxes take a beating from the weather, so we recommend an annual mailbox checkup to avoid damage to your mail or difficulty identifying your address.
