Coach Merino, Championship-Winning Coach, Named Mater Palms Academy Athletic Director in Hialeah

Hialeah's Mater Palms Academy announced the appointment of Coach Merino as its new Athletic Director. Merino, who previously served as the Assistant Athletic Director for three years, steps into the top role bringing a background of coaching success and a commitment to student-athlete development.

This leadership change at Mater Palms Academy impacts the school's athletic programs, affecting student-athletes, coaches, and the broader school community. Merino's journey in sports began on the streets of New York City, where he was born and raised. He built a coaching career that included winning multiple championships on the high school AAU travel basketball circuit and serving as a high school assistant coach. During his three years as Assistant Athletic Director at Mater Palms, the school's programs secured championships in track & field, flag football, and cheer.

A notable achievement for Merino came as head coach of the middle school boys basketball team. He led the team to an undefeated 9-0 record and the 2024-2025 Boys Basketball GFAC Championship. This 9-0 season marked the most wins in Mater Palms history for boys basketball and the school's first-ever championship in the sport.

As Athletic Director, Merino aims to continue building a program that reflects Panther pride and a spirit of excellence. He will focus on helping student-athletes discover their strengths, build lifelong skills, and create lasting memories through their participation in sports.
