Lionel Richie Hospitalized, Cancels Shows for Heart Procedure

Singer Lionel Richie has been hospitalized and underwent a procedure for atrial fibrillation, prompting the cancellation of several upcoming concerts. The news, first reported by TMZ, confirmed that Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire had to cancel three shows scheduled for late September and early October.

A representative for Richie confirmed to People magazine that the singer had a "common procedure for Atrial fibrillation" and that "The doctor said everything went well." TMZ reported the procedure was an AFib ablation aimed at restoring a normal heart rhythm. Richie's representative stated he will be "back on stage soon."

The canceled performances include shows in San Francisco on Sept. 26, Chicago on Sept. 30, and Columbus, Ohio, on Oct. 2. This is not the first time this year Richie's health has impacted his tour. In June, he paused a concert after feeling dizzy on stage, which resulted in two postponed dates. He was also hospitalized on Aug. 29 following a performance in St. Louis, releasing a few days later.
