Dr. Latoya D. Porter Joins Miami Gardens City Council

Dr. Latoya D. Porter joined the Miami Gardens City Council on Sept. 8, 2026, filling the Residential Area Seat 4 vacancy. The Mayor and City Council adopted Resolution No. 2026-087-2544 to confirm her appointment. Dr. Porter will serve until the winner of the Nov. 3, 2026, Run-Off Election takes office.

A South Florida native, Dr. Porter brings experience as an educator, youth advocate, and community leader. She holds degrees in Elementary Education and Reading from Florida Memorial University and a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She currently works at Scott Lake Elementary as a Literacy Coach, Testing Chair, Professional Development Liaison, and Academic Activities Director.

The City Council elected Dr. Porter to one of the district-elected seats. Four council members represent geographic districts, and two are elected citywide. Council members deliberate city business and set policy.
