Trump Bans CNN, MSNOW, Politico from White House

President Donald Trump banned CNN, MSNOW, and Politico from the White House on Friday, September 18. He cited unfavorable coverage as the reason and threatened further media prohibitions.

The ban impacts the traditional television pool that travels with the president, which provides independent coverage of presidential actions. Trump did not specify how the ban would be implemented.

Trump has frequently criticized news coverage he deems negative and has a history of suing news organizations and criticizing reporters. In February 2025, Trump restricted Associated Press journalists from accessing certain events. That action followed the AP's decision not to adopt his preferred name change for the Gulf of Mexico. The AP filed an ongoing lawsuit.

Trump wrote on his social media site that the ban was effective immediately, stating, "I am banning" CNN, MSNOW, and Politico "from the White House as a result of their constant 'reporting' FAKE NEWS!" He added, "Media Outlets shouldn't be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they're covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America." He concluded, "Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow."
