Darian Mensah Sets ACC Consecutive Completion Record, No. 5 Miami Dominates Wake Forest 33-20

Miami quarterback Darian Mensah made history on Friday night, setting an Atlantic Coast Conference record with 24 consecutive completions as the No. 5 Hurricanes defeated Wake Forest 33-20 at Allegacy Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The victory improved Miami's season record to 3-0.

Mensah's record-breaking performance included 220 passing yards and three touchdowns. He completed 30 of 34 passes without an interception. His streak of 24 straight completions broke the previous ACC single-game record of 15. Mensah's consecutive completion streak extended to 35 passes, dating back to Miami's previous game against Florida A&M.

The Hurricanes started strong, with Mensah completing his first nine attempts for 65 yards. This included a 9-yard touchdown pass to Josh Moore, capping a 93-yard, 14-play drive that consumed 7 minutes and 33 seconds on their opening possession. Mensah later connected with tight end Elija Lofton for a 21-yard touchdown, giving Miami a 14-7 lead.

Miami's ground game also contributed to their first-half dominance. Running backs Mark Fletcher Jr. and Marty Brown moved the ball downfield. Brown broke free for a 32-yard run to the Wake Forest 1-yard line, but sustained a right knee injury on the play and was carted off the field. Fletcher then scored from a yard out, extending Miami's lead to 21-7. Before halftime, Mensah connected on his 20th straight pass to Malachi Toney, who finished the half with 10 catches for 111 yards. Jake Weinberg added a 27-yard field goal, giving Miami a 24-7 lead at the break.

Wake Forest, now 2-1, responded to Miami's initial touchdown with a strong drive of their own. Quarterback Gio Lopez completed four of five passes for 55 yards, finding Kamrean Johnson for a 10-yard touchdown. Lopez finished the game with three touchdown passes, including a 23-yard score to wide receiver Jack Foley and another 17-yard touchdown pass to a wide receiver.

The extent of Marty Brown's right knee injury remains unknown. The team will likely provide an update on his condition in the coming days as they prepare for their next game.
