Sweetwater Mayor Diaz Connects Lil' Abner Residents with Agency Resources

SWEETWATER, FL – Mayor Jose “Pepe” Diaz has affirmed the City of Sweetwater’s commitment to assisting Lil’ Abner Mobile Home Park residents. Representatives from several government agencies will meet individually with residents to identify available resources.

Officials from the U.S. Social Security Administration, Florida Department of Children and Family Services, Miami-Dade Homeless Trust, and Miami-Dade Public Housing and Community Development will visit Sweetwater. These meetings aim to help residents identify resources for their circumstances.

“We remain committed to exploring all available resources to ensure we maximize opportunities, overcome challenges, and achieve our objectives effectively,” Mayor Diaz said. The city also continues discussions with Lil’ Abner Mobile Home Park ownership regarding solutions.

Residents can schedule appointments by contacting the Mobile Home Park Office at (305) 842-3276. The meetings will help determine potential assistance, including relocation support.

Mayor Diaz addressed resident questions about the property’s future, explaining the impact of the Live Local Act (Senate Bill 328), approved May 16, 2024. This law allows proposed developments in commercial, industrial, or mixed-use zones if they comply with the Affordable Housing Statute (F.S.S. 166.04151). The city will not require re-zoning and will only receive notification when permit applications are submitted.
