Israeli Ambassador's Son Critically Injured in West Bank Ramming Attack

Neria Leiter, son of Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Yechiel Leiter, is in critical condition after a ramming attack Wednesday afternoon near the settlement of Beit Horon in the occupied West Bank. The attack occurred at a security checkpoint.

Ambassador Leiter described his son's condition as dire, posting on social media that Neria Leiter "needs a miracle." Neria Leiter, an Israeli military reservist, was unconscious when paramedics arrived and was transported to a Jerusalem hospital.

According to Israeli authorities, suspect Mahmoud Suleiman rammed his car into the checkpoint. Israeli forces killed Suleiman as he attempted to flee.

The area, which connects Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, saw increased military presence after the incident. The attack occurred during the Jewish High Holy Days, shortly after Yom Kippur. It follows a surge in violence in the West Bank, including an Israeli man killed in a shooting attack earlier this week.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog both wished Leiter a recovery. Netanyahu visited the family at the hospital Wednesday night before departing for the U.N. General Assembly in New York.
