A 57-year-old Tamarac woman died Friday after her son stabbed her near the 5300 block of Northwest 28th Avenue. Broward Sheriff's deputies found Ylda Cabello-Ynocente with stab wounds and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Manuel Farfan-Cabello, 28, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. A judge denied him bond at his Sunday court appearance.
Family members told NBC6 that Cabello-Ynocente was a devoted mother and devoted Catholic. Her ex-husband, Oscar Montero, said he struggled to process her death.
Farfan-Cabello has schizophrenia and received treatment but continued to experience hallucinations, according to his aunt-in-law, Rocio, who traveled from Peru after learning of the killing. Rocio said her nephew is not a bad person and needs help.
The family is arranging to return Cabello-Ynocente's body to Peru, where relatives live.
