Miami Carnival transforms Central Broward Park this weekend into a vibrant celebration of Caribbean culture, music and dazzling costumes.
The weeklong event culminates Saturday and Sunday, drawing residents into the rich traditions of the Caribbean. This year, the carnival relocates its main events to Central Broward Park in Lauderhill, 3700 NW 11th Place, bringing the festivities closer to a large Caribbean American population.
The parade begins at Broward Regional Park, starting outside the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center and concluding with a large 'fete' – a party featuring live music and performances.
DJ Rocksteadyy, a carnival fixture, will play soca music throughout the week. "The Carnival culture is just soca," she said. "We like to keep it very traditional."
Costume designer Lila Nikole will showcase her "Amazonia" collection, featuring bold colors like kelly green and neon hot pink. Her designs include meticulously planned accessories, makeup and logistical support.
The carnival also offers a culinary journey. Joy's Roti Delight is one of many vendors serving Caribbean flavors. Asa Sealy noted the wide array of food, including chicken, goat, duck, and conch.
