Miami's Jewish day schools are expanding their commitment to inclusive education this fall. The Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE) has broadened its Al Pi Darko initiative, providing support for students with disabilities across six Federation-funded Jewish day schools.
This expansion means educators receive practical tools to better support children with diverse needs. The program aims to strengthen inclusive practices directly in the classroom, fostering school cultures where every student can belong and succeed.
CAJE, the education agency of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, launched the Al Pi Darko initiative a year ago in Jewish early childhood centers. That initial phase, conducted in partnership with the nonprofit Matan, focused on younger students. This year, CAJE has again partnered with Matan for a year-long cohort specifically for Jewish educators in day schools.
The initiative's goal is to build a shared understanding among educators and administrative leaders. This understanding emphasizes that inclusion is a school-wide responsibility, not just the task of a few individuals. The program focuses on creating increased opportunities for students with neurodivergent needs.
The year-long cohort is currently underway, with educators implementing new strategies throughout the current school year. Residents interested in learning more about inclusive education practices in local Jewish day schools can contact the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.
