A 35-year-old man, Jordan Eugene Brown, faces a multitude of charges after escaping Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah last Thursday, allegedly carjacking a woman, and leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Miami-Dade County. The incident concluded with Brown's apprehension after a Florida Highway Patrol trooper intervened.
This series of events, which put public safety at risk, has resulted in Brown being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Residents across Miami-Dade are talking about the brazen nature of the escape and subsequent pursuit, highlighting concerns about public safety and the legal repercussions for such actions.
According to Lt. Eddie Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Hialeah Police Department, Brown escaped Palmetto General Hospital, located at 2001 West 68th St., last Thursday. Following his escape, Brown allegedly injured a woman while stealing her car. He then led police on a dangerous chase through northwestern Miami-Dade County, driving against traffic multiple times and even passing a school bus, as law enforcement attempted various maneuvers to stop him.
The pursuit ended shortly after 1:10 p.m. when a Florida Highway Patrol trooper struck Brown's vehicle, causing it to spin out. Deputies from the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office pulled Brown, who was barefoot, shirtless, and wearing green pants, from the car and handcuffed him at Northwest 17th Avenue and 79th Street. Miami-Dade corrections booked Brown into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center shortly before 8:45 p.m. last Thursday.
On Friday morning, Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer presided over Brown's court appearance. Judge Glazer informed Brown of the potential for life imprisonment for some of the felony charges he faces. He currently faces 10 charges across six cases, including seven charges in three new pending cases and three charges in three warrant cases.
The charges include burglary with assault and battery, robbery or carjacking, and battery on a person 65 or older, with a pre-trial detention hold in one case. Another case involves a charge of fleeing and eluding a police officer. A third case lists charges of aggravated fleeing while attempting to elude police after damage, aggravated assault on a police officer, and resisting arrest.
