Archbishop Coakley Condemns Shooting at White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner
WASHINGTON – Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), issued a statement following news of a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. The Archbishop expressed gratitude that the lives of the President, his protective detail, and all attendees were spared from serious harm during the incident.
Archbishop Coakley called for prayers for elected leaders and public officials, asking for God’s blessings upon them. He emphasized the sanctity of human life, stating, “Because human life is a precious gift, there is no room for violence of any kind in our society.”
