Special Weather Statement: Strong Thunderstorms Bring Gusty Winds to Valley

A Special Weather Statement is in effect until 1:15 PM MST for parts of the Valley, warning of strong thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 40 mph and possible blowing dust.

Residents across the Northwest Valley, Tonopah Desert, Buckeye/Avondale, Central Phoenix, North Phoenix/Glendale, South Mountain/Ahwatukee, Northwest Pinal County, West Pinal County, and Sonoran Desert National Monument are advised to monitor weather conditions closely as a Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

Strong thunderstorms are currently tracking northeast at 30 mph, extending from southwest of Buckeye to east of Gila Bend. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 40 mph, which could result in downed tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around. Visibility may also be reduced below 3 miles due to blowing dust.

The alert is in effect until 1:15 PM MST today, October 10, 2026. Locations impacted include Phoenix, Glendale, Surprise, Avondale, Goodyear, Buckeye, and Maricopa. Several major highways are also affected, including portions of I-8, Loop 101, SR 85, I-10, SR 238, Loop 303, and SR 347.

The National Weather Service urges everyone in the affected areas to be alert for threatening weather conditions during this period.
