A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Meriwether County, including Greenville, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA, effective immediately as of October 9 at 11:19 PM EDT. This warning expires October 10 at 7:30 AM UTC (3:30 AM EDT).

Residents should finalize preparations for hazardous wind conditions, with peak gusts expected between 10-20 mph and possible gusts up to 40 mph. Efforts to protect property should be complete. Limited wind damage is possible, including damage to porches and awnings, and broken tree limbs. Scattered power and communications outages are anticipated. Hazardous driving conditions are expected on bridges and elevated roadways.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Anticipate an additional 2-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts. Emergency plans should include potential for moderate flooding. Be prepared for possible evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could enter some structures.

The situation is favorable for several tornadoes, with some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter immediately. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures.
