Melbourne residents interested in shaping the city's future development can apply for an open alternate position on the Planning & Zoning Board. Melbourne residents interested in shaping the city's future development can apply for an open alternate position on the Planning & Zoning Board. The board reviews land use issues, including site plans, conditional uses, special exceptions, residential subdivisions, plats, replats and zoning change requests. Board members also update the comprehensive plan, draft land development codes and prepare an annual capital improvement projects list for the city council.
Board members must not hold any other city office. Decisions require an affirmative vote from a majority of the regular and alternate members present and voting, with a maximum of five votes.
Current board members include Doug Dial (Chair, term expires 2027), Liz Ritter (Vice-Chair, term expires 2026), David Scott Taylor (term expires 2028), Meghan Wolfgram (term expires 2027), Anne Vliegenthart (term expires 2027), and Alt. Shelby Vecchio (term expires 2028).
